Daniel
Pearl recognized the ability of music
to bridge differences among people. In
the spirit of Danny's love of music and
commitment to dialogue, the Daniel Pearl
Foundation launched the first Daniel Pearl
World Music Days on October 10, 2002,
which would have been Danny's 39th birthday.
Using the power of music to promote tolerance
and inspire respect for differences, Daniel
Pearl World Music Days has grown to
include thousands of performances in over
60 countries. In 2005 we introduced World
Music Days eStage, a month long on-line
gallery and radio station featuring music,
poetry, art, articles, and dedications
reflecting Danny’s lifetime of work
connecting people through words and music.

The Daniel Pearl Dialogue for Muslim-Jewish Understanding is a series of personal yet public conversations between Daniel Pearl’s father, Professor Judea Pearl, President of the Daniel Pearl Foundation, and Dr. Akbar Ahmed,Chair of Islamic Studies at American University. The program grew out of Professors Ahmed and Pearl's shared concern about the deterioration of relationships between Muslim and Jewish communities around the world, and their strong belief that reconciliation between these two Abrahamic faiths can be achieved through frank and respectful dialogue. The discussions range from theological issues, historical perceptions to current events.
In 2006 Professors Ahmed and Pearl were awarded the first annual Purpose Prize “in recognition of [their] simple, yet innovative approach to solving one of society’s most pressing problems.” Click here for more information. |

The Daniel Pearl Foundation partners with the Alfred Friendly
Press Fellowships and the
International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) International Journalism Exchange (IJE) to
bring mid-career journalists and editors to work in U.S. newsrooms.
The Daniel Pearl
Journalism Fellowship established in partnership with the Alfred Friendly
Press Fellowships brings promising, mid-career foreign journalists to work for
six months in a US newsroom. It is an invitation to Danny’s former journalism
colleagues to continue his mission by writing for the audiences for whom he
wrote, working with his colleagues and getting to know the U.S. press from the
inside. Journalists from South Asia, the Middle East and/or North Africa are
invited to apply for the Daniel Pearl Fellowship.
The Daniel Pearl
Editorial Fellowship program in conjunction with the International
Journalism Exchange is designed to provide participants with (i) a practical
understanding of the function and significance of the editorial process in the
free press in the United States; (ii) writing and editorial skills and (iii)
continuing ties to journalists, editors and news publications in the U.S. |

| The Daniel Pearl Media Internship provides two-month internships with newspaper, radio, and TV hosts to Israeli and Palestinian youth aged 16-23 who have participated in a co-existence and dialogue program. In partnership with Crossing Borders, we provide internships to graduates of the Peace it Together and Crossing Borders camps. The objective is to provide youth who understand the destructive power of hatred and who have "seen the human face of the enemy" with opportunities to become journalists and thereby amplify voices of reason and humanity in their respective societies. |
